I think Paris can be a FANTASTIC city for solo travelers. It has a lively buzz that makes you never feel alone, plus there’s nothing odd here about sitting at a café by yourself (Parisians do this all the time), and you can spend hours exploring the city alone without feeling unsafe. The city provides the right setting for solo trips, but picking the right hotel can also make a BIG difference for your stay. You likely don’t want a hotel that’s over-the-top romantic, but you’ll still want a place that feels welcoming and in a safe neighborhood. I’ve considered all these things, and a lot of other factors, in this list of the best Paris hotels for solo travelers.

Le Pigalle, 9th arrondissement

High on my list of the best Paris hotels for solo travelers is this amazing boutique hotel in South Pigalle. The area has a wonderful local feel and is packed with great cafés, bars, and restaurants.

However, I’m not going to sugarcoat things, the district IS a little further away from classic tourist sites, but it IS walking distance to Montmartre and the Louvre, and if you want to go to the Eiffel Tower, or  Notre Dame, there’s a handy métro station nearby. So this is a better option if you WANT to be away from the tourist crowds at those attractions and experience the city like a local.

Besides its cool location, the hotel in itself is very inviting. It’s got a huge ground-floor lounge that feels a bit like you’re staying with a Parisian friend. You can do a little work at the large common table or grab a drink on a sofa next to hip locals in the living room-style sitting areas. The guest rooms are really nice too, with an effortlessly chic feel, decorated with black and white photos and flea market finds. (WA)

Welcome Hotel, 6th arrondissement

A good deal in Saint Germain? Yes, it IS possible. This posh Left Bank neighborhood is one of the most expensive in the whole city, but this family-run hotel is a real bargain. The decor is a bit old-school, however, the rooms are clean and pleasant. It has single rooms, which are a good option if you’re on a bit of a budget. Plus, the area is super SAFE, so if you’re traveling solo, you won’t have to worry about getting to the hotel at night. Around the corner is rue du Buci, a buzzing street lined with casual cafés where you can go by yourself without a problem. It’s also really central, so you’ll be able to do a lot of sightseeing on foot.

Hotel Fabric, 11th arrondissement

Set within a former 19th-century textile factory, this cool hotel in the 11th district is another great option for solo travelers visiting Paris. It has a nice shared lounge with a large table for co-working and friendly sitting areas, which is one of the reasons I think it’s a good match for travelers on their own. The rooms also have a warm feel, with exposed brick walls and colorful curtains and headboards. There are small double rooms that are a good fit for solo travelers or for a bit more space, deluxe rooms with a little sofa and desk area.

The 11th arrondissement is one of the coolest districts in the city, so there are plenty of great coffee shops and casual eateries that are good for making new friends. You can also easily reach the Marais or Canal St-Martin neighborhoods on foot. (WA)

CitizenM – Gare de Lyon, 12th arrondissement

CitizenM hotels are known for their friendly, modern approach, which makes them a great match for solo travelers. There are a couple of locations in Paris, but I think the one at Gare de Lyon is best for solo travelers. Although the rooms are tiny (not uncommon in Paris), this location is more affordable than the others, AND it has a FANTASTIC rooftop bar. Be sure to come for an apéro hour, since the bar’s large windows face west and have views of the sunset and the Eiffel Tower (well, in the distance). A short walk will take you to some cool boat bars down along the Seine River, and to Ground Control, a really cool hangout with stands selling casual street food and drinks. These two hot spots are already in our Paris Itinerary so you won’t have to figure out how to work them into your daily exploring plan. (WA)

OKKO – Gare de l’Est, 10th arrondissement

This hotel is likely the most affordable on my list of best Paris hotels for solo travelers. In addition to having cheap rates, it has a really unique location, right along one of the platforms in Gare de l’Est station. Called “urban cocoons,” rooms are small, but they’re bright, well-organized, and have excellent beds and bedding. They have a friendly common area for chatting with fellow guests, and there’s also a public garden on the roof where you can relax in the sun. The métro is literally beneath your bed, which makes it convenient for getting around the city, and it’s only a short stroll to reach the Canal St-Martin, where you’ll find great shops, bars, and cafés. Hotel Duo, 4th arrondissement

This nice boutique hotel has a SUPER central location, near the southern border of the Marais and the Les Halles district. This means that you’ll be able to walk to TONS of places in Paris, but the buzzy vibes of the area will make some solo travelers feel more comfortable being out and about alone. It’s got compact single rooms as well as “superior” singles that are a tad more spacious, but since the prices are pretty reasonable, you might be able to pay extra for a double. Some rooms have funky patterned wallpaper in light greens or flashy pinks, while others are more subdued in brown tones. (WA)

Chouchou Hotel, 9th arrondissement

Just because you’re by yourself in Paris doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a little magic in your accommodation, and there’s plenty at this whimsical boutique hotel. It’s in the central Opera district, just a few minutes away from the Louvre, the Tuileries Gardens, and the large stores behind the Opera House. The hotel has a modern carnival-like feel, with a spacious bar-restaurant with large sharing tables, good for socializing with the Parisians who also come here. The rooms have both dark and white walls, cool lighting, and some vintage design items. Among the 63 rooms are some single rooms, which can appeal to solo travelers. (WA)

Le Village Montmartre, 18th arrondissement

This boutique hostel is a great option for staying in Montmartre on a budget. The decor is on the simple side, but it has some really charming wooden beams, parquet flooring, and cool light fixtures. What I like about it is that you have a lot of choices when it comes to the rooms. So, depending on your budget, you can have your own private room or stay in a shared dorm with four to 12 beds. You can even enjoy Sacré-Coeur without the crowds from a hammock or table on its sunny terrace.
